Our museum Curator and her team were able to be the first to bring this exhibition to New York State. it will be with us until August 17th of this year. It powerfully tells the story of water and it's importance to our history, our culture, and our economy. Especially in communities like ours, it is the key to where we have come from and who we are as a community. Take time to visit this month or early next month and enjoy this powerful multi-media presentation. While you are there spend a little time on the local display. You will learn plenty about our wonderful Salt City.

One of the building blocks of Syracuse and Central New York was the Erie Canal. We have a wonderful museum downtown that celebrates that history. Over the next five months they are providing an entertaining way to learn some history and enjoy the museum. Check out the link below and plan to attend one of these great events that begin tonight.

The annual Blues Festival is in town on July 10th at Clinton Square in the city of Syracuse. The annual event draws some of the best blues players in the country and region every summer. Lots of venues, lots of food, lots of excellent music. What could be better on a summer evening or afternoon?

For those who have heard symphony music is gone from Central New York or who have mourned the loss of the SSO (Syracuse Symphony Orchestra), I urge you to give "Symphoria" a try. The new sound of symphony music presented by a musician's coop style organization, provides us with the high quality of music we have come to expect from the fine musicians who grace our community. On November 8th my wife and I enjoyed a program called Northern Lights, in which Symphoria presented Rimsky-Korsakov's Russian Easter Overture, and our own Allan Kolsky played the clarinet concerto, Op 57 by Nielsen to round out the opening half.

After intermission, Symphoria moved us once again with a powerful rendition of Tchaikovsky's Symphony number 6 in B minor. Symphoria had the audience so excited after the third movement, people could hardly hold their applause. Visiting conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto, the music director for the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (which is also a musicians' coop) turned and encouraged us to respond. He added a relaxed enjoyment to the music that made it truly satisfying.

The next Symphoria Event will be the annual presentation of Handle's "Messiah" which will be performed at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on the corner of E Fayette and Montgomery Streets on Sunday, December 7th at 2:30 p.m. Why not take a little time to reacquaint yourself with local symphony talent. Quality music is truly alive and well in Central New York.

The Landmark Theatre in the city of Syracuse is truly a significant, historical landmark. The theatre originally opened in 1928 as Lowe's State. Designed by architect, Thomas Lamb to accommodate 3000, the theatre was filled with amazing architectural features and an amazing Tiffany chandelier that graces the paneled main lobby. The theatre was painstakingly restored to close to its original condition in the early 1980's. The theatre has been gaining popularity again with some excellent shows, most recently, Jackson Browne on his Solo Acoustic Tour. This is a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the lavish appointments of a truly lovely building, as well as, enjoy great entertainment.
